DARTMOUTH COLLEGE | THE CRAFT INSTITUTE

Brand Identity

The Craft Institute works to strengthen the ecosystem of Black theatre through artist support, advocacy, and cultural leadership. They needed a clear, expressive identity that could unify their programs and give the organization a strong visual presence.

The Challenge

Their existing visuals didn’t reflect the depth or impact of their work. The Institute needed a system that felt contemporary, culturally grounded, and flexible enough to use across events, publications, and digital platforms.

My Role & Approach

I developed a visual identity centered on custom lettering that forms a modern interpretation of the classic theatre masks—capturing both expression and craft. The system uses bold typography, a focused color palette, and modular elements designed for easy application by their internal team.

Execution

  • Complete visual identity system

  • Logo and supporting marks

  • Color + typography system

  • Layout templates and graphic building blocks

  • Event posters, signage, and social assets

  • Digital toolkit for the in-house team

Impact

The new identity gives The Craft Institute a distinctive, versatile visual system that continues to support their national initiatives and ongoing programming.

2018 INTERNATIONAL BLACK THEATRE SUMMIT

Brand Identity

Dartmouth College partnered with me to create a modern identity system for the International Black Theatre Summit—an influential gathering of artists, scholars, and cultural leaders. The goal was to build a visual system that honored the Summit’s legacy while giving their team a flexible toolkit for future programming.

The Challenge

The Summit needed a unified brand that could speak to multiple audiences—students, artists, activists, academics—and work across print, digital, and large-scale event materials. Their existing identity lacked consistency and scalability.

My Role & Approach

I led creative direction and design for the entire identity system, focusing on:

  • Strong, expressive typography

  • A modular graphic language based on theatrical movement and storytelling

  • A palette and visual rhythm that honored Black theatre history without relying on tropes

  • A structure the internal team could easily extend

Execution

  • Complete visual identity system

  • Logo and supporting marks

  • Color + typography system

  • Layout templates and graphic building blocks

  • Event posters, signage, and social assets

  • Digital toolkit for the in-house team

Impact

The new identity unified all Summit communications and gave Dartmouth a brand flexible enough to use across future conferences and programming. The visual system strengthened recognition, improved internal workflow, and elevated the Summit’s presence.
